Wind is a source of clean energy, and overall, the use of wind for energy has less environmental impact than using a lot of other energy sources. wind turbines (often called a windmill) does not release emissions that pollute the air or water (with rare exceptions), and they do not require water for cooling. They also can reduce the amount of electricity generated from fossil fuels and therefore reduce the amount of air pollution, emissions of carbon dioxide, and water use from fossil fuel power plants.
A wind turbine has a small physical footprint than the amount that can generate electricity. Many wind projects, sometimes called a wind farm, is located in agriculture, grazing, and forest land. Extra revenue from the turbine allows farmers and ranchers to stay in business and keep their property from being developed for other purposes. For example, wind power projects have been proposed as an alternative to projects mountain top removal coal mining in the Appalachian mountains of Off-shore wind turbines in the lake or the sea, the U.S. may have a smaller environmental impact than turbines on land.
